A Good Lesson to Learn from A Book

"Have I told you about the tension of opposites?" he says.

Tension of opposites?

"Life is a series of pulls back & forth. You want to do one thing, but you are bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn't.
You take certain things for granted, even when you should never take anything for granted.
A tension of opposites is like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somewhere in the middle."

Sounds like a wrestling match, I say.

"A wrestling match", he laughs. "Yes, you could describe life that way."

So which sides wins?, I ask.

"Which side wins?"

He smiles at me, the crinkled eyes, the crooked teeth.
"Love wins. Love always wins."

Tuesday's with Morrie - Mitch Albom

I just came back from library @ Orchard. On my way back I went to Borders and read some chapters of Tuesday's with Morrie an old man, a young man, and life's greatest lesson by Mitch Albom.

I've heard a lot of people mentioned about it. I just got this opportunity as the book lies there on the shelf just in front of me.

The book tells a true story of a college professor and his student that has reunited after over sixteen years. The student is the Author himself who attended four years of college under the mentorship of his professor, Morrie.

At graduation from college, Mitch had promised his favorite professor and mentor that he would keep in contact on a regular basis. Mitch did not. In fact, Mitch was reunited with Morrie after he saw a news special that Morrie was dying of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Mitch began regular visits with Morrie that took place every Tuesday morning. That's where the story starts.

In the Tuesday lessons, Morrie taught Mitch everything from life to death, friends to family, money to aging, and culture to forgiveness. In all of this, Morrie was teaching Mitch those issues of life that are priority and "the real" bottom line.

Morrie died serenely at home, surrounded by his books, notes and hibiscus plant, with his children and wife sleeping in shifts around his bed. Reviewing Morrie's course on the meaning of life, Albom concludes that Morrie was changing until his final goodbye.

Morrie's last message, Albom writes, was: "There is no such thing as 'too late' in life."

Heheh a very interesting book indeed :).

A Hot Day

In Singapore the weather changes very fast.

These few days the temperature has been around 32-35 degrees.
current

This morning, the sun striked hot.
It is worsen when I have to walk under the hot sun for an avoidable event.

Today I left home to office at usual time. I walked to the bus stop for about 8 minutes. After waiting for about 10 minutes, finally the 189 bus came.
I just realized that I forgot to bring my wallet when I want to enter the bus.
Gosh, all my money and ezlink card is inside the wallet.
So I rushed back to the flat, and got it. After that, I still need to walk back to the bus stop and wait for the next bus.

Next time, I will just put the ezlink inside my bag to prevent this kind of situation.

By the way, there is a good news. The weather forecast by CNN mentioned that for the next few days Singapore will be partially cloudy. So at least we can expect the temperature to be lower.

My Journey with God

And even though I'm walking
Through the valley of the shadow
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me
And when all hope is gone
And I've been wounded in the battle
He is all the strength that I will ever need
He will carry me

He will carry me - Mark Schultz

I was not born in a Christian family. Both my parents were Buddhist and I was studying in Catholic school for 13 years.

My mum started to become a Christian when I was in Primary 3. I still remember my mum's friend who asked us to go to church every Sunday, she even picked us up at our front door :).

Since that day, I went to Sunday school with my sister. I joined the church choir when I was in Primary 5. I was baptized when I was in 2nd year of my Senior High School. I believe in God. That's for sure. I also believe in Jesus as my saviour.

My christian live however, can't be denied, is full with ups and downs.
Sometimes I went to church just for the sake of routine. There were times in my life where I didn't feel close to God and been wondering how to go back to my first love to God.

During my second year in NTU, my father passed away. It was 2 days after my 20th birthday. I feel sad and shocked at the same time.
That's the first time in my life I needed to think about so many things until I couldn't think anymore.

However God is faithful and good. I have been blessed with a great family, a wonderful mum who always believes that God will provides, as well as so many friends who helped me going through the process. Those who skipped lecture and tutorial to help me get my air ticket, fetched me and picked me up from Changi. Those who explained the past lectures, tutorials and labs as I really skipped lots of them. And many others. Sometimes I have been wondering what will happen to me without them. Well, a friend in need is a friend in deed. Thanks guys.

Looking back at my life, I really thank God for everything. Thank God for good times and thank God for bad times. As no matter what happens I believe that He will always be there for me and you :).

I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with loving-kindness have I draw you” (Jeremiah 31:3).

How to be Self-Motivated

Hi...

How to be Self-Motivated?

Well, this is a question.
I am not going to give some tips or tricks on how to be self-motivated.

These few weeks I've been trying very hard to be motivated to do my work.. :S.
Gee, may be I feel saturated.
I look forward to weekend everyday.

Once I watched a business program in Channel News Asia. It's about a lady who is doing a SPA business. She is continuing her parents business. She told the news presenter that she really like her job until she doesn't feel that she is actually working.

Hmm one day I will find a job (or create one myself) where I can work and enjoy a single moment of it.
Happy working or studying or anything to all of you ....

Life in the Modern World

'We live and work and dream,
Each has his little scheme,
Sometimes we laugh,
Sometimes we cry,
And thus the days go by.'

How does life seem to many people? A tread mill.
For a quarter of century people work to acquire the means of livelihood,
for another quarter they struggle amidst perpetual anxieties to accumulate some wealth and property,
and in the next quarter they progress towards death without even knowing exactly why they live at all..

People are too busy earning for a living that they have no time to live.
What an irony...

Well... heheh that is a general case of modern living style.
That is not my life style for sure :).
So everybody let's try to find a time to enjoy ourselves everyday.
Learn to relax and smile more..

Bible verse for today :
"I have come that they may have life and may have it abundantly." John 10:10

Happy Birthday to My Cousin

Today is my cousin's 21 th birthday....

Happy Birthday Annnn
Wishing you a birthday as special as you are :)
bday_small

Around 7.30 pm, my cousins, me and her friends (jeko, her bf, ci mel and pinky) had dinner at SOFRA, Turkish Cafe and restraurant.
The restaurant is very unique. It is decorated with lots of candles, flowers and lanterns (or something like lamp post with a candle inside I don't know how to call it) .
The waiter is very friendly, too friendly in fact.

As usual, the birthday dinner starts with ci mel's prayer for yoli.
It seems most of NTU bible study group tend to have this kind of traditional celebration of eat together activities-start-with-prayer-for the birthday one.

I had Turkish kebab as main course. In fact 4 out of 8 people had that :).
I also tried the Turkish apple tea.. very nice.
We had pumpkin and a very sweet pastry for dessert (I forgotten the name as well... gee not an easy name to remember).

This is the first dinner that I had with all my 3 cousins in Singapore.
It is very difficult for me to meet all of them at one time, as we stay very far with each other.
Hehhe anyway thanks An for the dinner... :)

The Royal Wedding

PRINCE Charles finally married long-time lover Camilla Parker Bowles.

C_17_Articles_154173_BodyWeb_Detail_0_Image

Parker-Bowles is the longtime companion of Britain's Prince Charles. The two met in the early 1970s, becoming friends and then romantic partners. Both later were married to others (Camilla to Army captain Andrew Parker-Bowles in 1973, and Charles to Diana Spencer in 1981), but their friendship endured. Parker-Bowles and her husband divorced in 1995 and Charles and Diana divorced in 1996; Charles later admitted that he and Parker-Bowles had been romantically involved even when both still were married. After Diana's death in 1997, Parker-Bowles became recognized as Charles's steady companion and partner, amid much public speculation over her eventual role should Charles become king. In February of 2005 the two announced they would be married in a civil ceremony on 8 April 2005. That date was later changed to April 9th after the funeral of Pope John Paul II was scheduled for the 8th.

Is it faith that finally brings them together?

Quotes for today: It doesn't matter if the guy is perfect or the girl is perfect, as
long as they are perfect for each other.

Life

Life is like a circle, don't you think so?
All which has a beginning will come to an end one day.

Well, it was all started when we were born as babies.
We need to be fed, bathed, etc.
The babies will grow, matured, independent and experienced a "so called" real life (whether it is a wonderful one or the tough one).
At the end of the day we might become old and need to be fed, bathed once again.

I agree that live is tough.
Every people has their own problems.
Students need to study and pass the exam. After graduating from university, we still need to find jobs. After that we still need to pay loan.
Hehehe sounds like a never ending cycle.
Only around 5% of population in the world were born in rich family.
And may be they also have their own problems and restrictions.

Some people may say, "If everything will just go back to its initial stage of the cycle, why bother to live anyway?"

Actually,,,,, the life in between is what matters the most.

Last Sunday Pope John Paul II passed away, after more than quarter of a century reign in Catholic churches.
Tommorow he will be buried in a ceremony which is held in the Vatican. The ritual is scheduled for noon at the famous square in front of St. Peter's Basilica.

A condolence is extended to those who profoundly believe in the Pontiff.

Good nite all...

I Like Rainy Day

It's been raining since morning.
I like rainy day :).
Especially when it is drizzling.
Of course it is fun only if you bring umbrella with you (Anyway I bring umbrella most of the time).

Top five rainy day activities:
1.Sleep :)... hehehhe...
2.Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain......
3.When I was a little girl I like to go out from the house with my umbrella and walk around the garden.. heheh funny. I remembered my mum always called me back from the house.
4.Listen to relaxing music.
5.Going to the zoo..
You don't believe me?
Well, around 5 months ago my flatmate and me went to Singapore zoo. We didn't expect it to rain, but it did happened. We bought cheap transparent raincoat from the zoo counter(only 1 dolar I guess, can't really remember). The rainy day at the zoo came out to be one of the most fun experience ever... We walked around with the raincoat. Watched all the entertainment and shows in raincoat..:). The rain was not very bad tough.
Hehehhe you have to try it sometimes.

Have a good day all..
